Musicals ARE shit in the main. Blues brothers was ok though. Took my daughter to see Mary poppins as she was obsessed with the film (watched dvd 8 times a weekend). It was surprisingly ok.
But as a rule musicals are shit. Just fucking act and get on with the story

A bonnet de douche! They should let sleeping dogs lie. Whatever next? Hi-de-Hi or Allo Allo?
Any foreign tourists or anyone born after 1990 will be scratching their heads over this, can’t see it being a huge hit.

If the songs are good then musicals are excellent. Sadly most of them have songs that make you want to stick pins in your eyes.

Chajon of course Mary Poppins is a musical Though if you watch Saving Mr Banks which is an excellent film, Disney insisted it became a musical against the will of PL Travers.

As a genre I'd say that musicals are pretty pony and mainly aimed at women. But there are one or two exceptions; I saw Guys and Dolls way back in '82 which had a fantastic cast including Bob Hoskins and Julia Mckenzie and it was absolutely superb. Also, the Kinks juke box musical was pretty good as well.
As for OFAH the musical, they might have a bit of a problem with the tourist audience who won't have a clue what it's about.

Musicals are appalling - can't stand random singing and dancing getting in the way of a good plot (or even a shit one like in this case). Only one I've seen live is Matilda, with the kids, which to be fair was an impressive array of talented kids. And does Mary Poppins count as a musical, as that is a great film
Maybe there will be a Poppins pastiche with hundreds of roadsweepers twirlings Trigger's broom around the streets of Peckham.

God this sounds awful. At least with the juke box musicals there are some half decent (depending on taste) tunes to fall back on even if the story is terrible. This is the reverse, decent dramatic source and two theme tunes. Thin doesn't even begin to describe it. I usually hate musical but went to Bat out of Hell last week (not my idea) and it was great fun. Rocky Horror show get a free pass.

Is it a thing on here not to like anything “mainstream “. ? Don’t worry , no one really cares if you like going to watch Mamma Mia or The Lion King . It’s entertainment! You don’t have to be “cool “.

a much better bet for the West End Theatre will be " All About Eve " - starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James. Also in the new year. .

Everything remotely decent has to have the joy milked out of it. Just leave it be. Nurse is right of course, musicals are the absolute dregs of entertainment.

I have no idea how anybody could sit through a musical. A musical film is bad enough, but who in their right mind would waste a trip to the theatre on such a vulgar and degraded genre?
